2019 saw Aylesbury Granulation Services shortlisted for two prestigious awards in their plastic recycling sector. Whilst we were not overall winners at either award we are delighted with the success we had – especially considering our size.
Plastics Recycling Business of the Year Finalist
In May we were shortlisted in the category Plastics Recycling Business of the Year at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.
We had to prove that we had provided a service in a consistent and thorough way for our customers. We offered strong evidence of the levels of recycling achieved and provided testimonials from our customers, which can be found by clicking this link.
The judges agreed that we could be held up as an example of good practice for the sector in which we operate. They were also impressed with our business focus which ensures optimum control on issues relevant to our sector, including quality, volumes and communications.
We were pipped to the post by an extremely worthy competitor, Bywaters, who had made many exciting improvements in the year. This included installation of a raft of new equipment in their MRF. They also worked with Sky Ocean Rescue to help build “Plasticus the Whale” which raised awareness of plastic pollution in the Oceans.
Best Business in Aylesbury Vale District Finalist
In September we were hand-picked for the “Best in District” award at the Buckinghamshire Business Awards 2019.
Whilst the pool of entrants was geographically smaller for these awards the process undertaken to be chosen on a shortlist, let alone pulled into a Best in District category, was very in depth. There were very comprehensive application forms to complete; a face-to-face interview with the award sponsor, Aylesbury Vale District Council; and a video. All before the awards ceremony itself.
We were asked to – and succeeded to – provide evidence of:
- how our business had grown in the past two years
- our key strategic objectives and what has been done to work towards achieving them
- market analysis and use of that data to respond to change
- our strategy and vision for the next three to five years
The judges looked at several general factors, but specifically looked to recognise and reward the excellence within the short-listed businesses . They judged: growth and performance; the way we get involved and makes a positive impact within the wider community and our plans for future growth.
All businesses that entered an application, whether they were shortlisted in one of the nine award categories, or not, were considered for the “Best in District” award. Knowing this proves that we genuinely are one of the best businesses in Buckinghamshire.
