Plastic Pallet Recycling

At Aylesbury Granulation, we are happy to help with plastic pallet recycling for any businesses that may have them surplus to requirements.  Solid plastic pallets are totally recyclable and after processing at Aylesbury Granulation they will be made back into new products.

Identification

We are happy to recycle any pallets that are made from either PP or PE. In order to identify whether your pallets are suitable, you will need to carefully find the recycling logo which will be stamped somewhere on the plastic.  This can often be found on the underside, but sometimes on the side.  The stamp will either read the letters PE or PP, or the recycling numbers which represent these polymers which are 2 (PE) and 5 (PP).

If pallets are not marked PE or PP then we will not be able to assist with these particular plastic pallet recycling. Likewise foam or styrene filled pallets are not suitable for recycling.

Uses

Plastic pallets are used in a wide range of industries, due to their strength and that fact that they do not shed fibres. Examples include:

  • The food industry, where plastic is allowed in the factory, but wood is not, for example click here.
  • Overseas shipping, where the plastic pallet can weigh considerably less than its wooden counterpart, thus saving costs and carbon footprint
  • The pharmaceutical industry – where it s imperative that there is no contamination or spoilage
  • Automated warehousing – as they are very uniform and have none of the natural characteristics of a wooden pallet, as seen here.
  • The automotive industry – where parts can be very heavy, and so the robustness and longevity of a pallet is hugely important to avoid damage
